Finished in shellac and beeswax. Overall size 18.5 x 7 cm Lithium (from the Greek lithos meaning stone) occurs in small amounts in seawater and all igneous rocks. It is one of the simplest elements, with only three electrons, and possibly one of the few elements formed in the 'big bang'. In this representation of an atom of lithium, the central depression represents the atomic nucleus with the silver rings depicting the dynamic nature of the three electrons out side of the nucleus. The four rings represent the planes of the two spherical regions of space occupied by these electrons.
